Dyslexia affects 20 percent of the population and represents 80-90 percent of all those with learning disabilities. It is the most common of all neuro-cognitive disorders. This course will provide an overview of dyslexia, which falls under the diagnostic umbrella of specific learning disabilities. We will discuss the knowledge and skills teachers need to effectively meet the needs of ALL students. During this course we will explore the origin of dyslexia and the implications within the classroom. Participants will have the opportunity to complete a dyslexia simulation that will allow them to experience some of the challenges and frustrations faced by people with this language-based learning disability.
