Welcome to the 2023 Summer Literacy Institute.
Literacy Lovers unite at our 2023 summer literacy conversation. Join Central Ohio educators for a full day of intentional literacy conversations and reflections with both national and local experts.

Topics include.... digital writing, dyslexia, early childhood, graphic novels, book clubs, morphology, oral language, poetry, text sets and more.

Be sure to review the many breakout sessions and keynote presenters.  You may choose to hover over the session or select expanded view under the schedule options to read more about the sessions offered.  

You must sign up and establish a profile to register.  Be sure to select breakout sessions! Once registered you will receive a confirmation email.

What IS a text set, anyways? Principles to Guide Text Set Construction in ELA, Social Studies, and Science

Text sets are a key aspect of how teachers shape students' literacy experiences, build their knowledge, expose them to new genres, and connect to disciplinary ideas. Thought leaders in adolescent literacy have proposed new principles to guide text set construction, and I'll share these with the audience, including both interdisciplinary principles that work in any class and discipline-specific principles for ELA, history, and science. I'll also share specific teacher-developed examples for middle and high school classrooms!
